Nikkor AFD 50mm f1.4
So sharp that it could put your eye out
Impressions
A very good fast lens a bit soft wide open, but by f1.8-2.2 it is razor sharp. Bokeh is good, but not as buttery as
some other lenses.
As a portrait lens it is the perfect focal length on a crop sensor, but it honestly is too sharp.

skin with this lens. Every skin defect is revealed dramatically. Excellent for
cityscapes,
and landscapes...assuming you can back off enough
for framing. I love the small size + very good
build quality. Some report ghosting, and flare to be problematic. I have encountered this
occasionally. I rate the
Nikon 50mm f1.4 a 8 out of 10 for build quality, and 9 out of 10 for IQ - there is room for improvement. I shot
many of the lenses in these reviews with this lens.
